Edit INI, XML and section tables correctly
A parser reads structure, not the visual alignment of a file. Keep each file’s original syntax and encoding. Do not translate technical names such as MapNumber, Enable or Index.
The outcome to aim for
A parser reads structure, not the visual alignment of a file. Keep each file’s original syntax and encoding. Do not translate technical names such as MapNumber, Enable or Index.
Success check: Reopen the saved file and confirm Chinese text, quotes and the last end marker survived.
Before you start
Read the complete procedure and its version notes. Record the affected server role and keep an untouched backup outside scanned data folders.
Files you need
This chapter is an operating procedure. Its steps identify when to use the related task and file references.
One step at a time
- STEP 1
INI: change the value after = under the correct [Section]. Avoid duplicate keys or duplicate sections. Keys with AL0..AL3 apply to different account tiers; edit the intended tier.
- STEP 2
XML: keep one root element, close every element, quote attribute values, and escape & as & in display text. An XML comment cannot contain another comment.
- STEP 3
Section tables: preserve the section number and each end marker. Spaces and tabs separate fields; text containing spaces generally needs quotes. Copy the full row before changing selected fields.
- STEP 4
Wildcards are file-specific. *, -1 and 255 do not have one universal meaning. Keep the original value unless this chapter or the file reference explains it.
- STEP 5
Gate.txt compatibility requires UTF-8 without BOM. CommandAlias.txt uses UTF-8 and accepts a BOM. For other legacy tables, retain the original encoding unless that particular loader is known to support conversion.
Progress is saved only in this browser. Completion is your learning record, not proof of a live server change.
Apply the real change
Use the load method stated in the steps for this system. Startup-only settings require a planned restart. The reload finder below shows recorded groups; confirm whether the particular field is startup-only.
Find the file’s reload instructions →Verify the result in game
Reopen the saved file and confirm Chinese text, quotes and the last end marker survived.
If the expected result is missing, restore the backed-up files and repeat the same reload/restart before adding another change.
